From Pluto, Earth to transit sun today Earth transits seen from Pluto are rare. It hasn't happened since 1931, the year after Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto. It won't happen again for 161 years. Pluto: Preparing for the perfect alignment Astronomers plan to aim the Hubble Space Telescope and several ground-based telescopes toward Pluto today, as the Earth transit occurs. Friday the 13th supermoon solar eclipse The southeastern Australia coast will see a very skimpy partial eclipse on Friday afternoon. Eclipse times for that region here. This eclipse happens during the night tonight for us in the Americas. It's the 1st Friday the 13th solar eclipse since 1974. Won't happen again until 2080. Northern Cross: Backbone of the Milky Way On summer evenings, look for this star pattern in the east, sideways to the horizon.
