See it! The dance of planets before dawn

Mars emerged before sunup last week, to meet Mercury below bright Venus. And then the moon passed through. Thanks to all who submitted photos!

Biblical signs in the sky?

Will the sky on September 23, 2017 mirror signs from the Book of Revelation in the Bible? An astronomer responds.
Humans are still evolving, say scientists
Scientists have identified genetic variants less common in older people than younger people. They say it's natural selection at work, continuing to weed out disadvantageous traits.

Astronomers find a pitch-black planet

Exoplanet WASP-12b has the unique capability to trap 94 percent of the visible starlight falling into its atmosphere. The result is a world as black as fresh asphalt.

Dance of planets before Monday's dawn

Moon and Venus this morning, from Michael Coonan in Australia. Why is Venus to the right of the moon here, instead of to the left as in so many of the photos on this page? The reason is Michael's southerly location, which changes his perspective on Earth's sky. Notice small perspective shifts among many of these photos, taken from around the world.

Dance of planets before Monday's dawn

From some places, the moon passed in front of Venus this morning. This composite image was taken from Telok Kemang Observatory in Malaysia. The image shows multiple Venuses because the group captured multiple images over time, as Earth spun under the sky. It shows the edge of the moon blotting Venus temporarily from view.
