2019's closest far moon is this weekend

The moon's orbit around Earth isn't a perfect circle, although - as the diagram above shows - it's nearly circular. The moon is at last quarter on Sunday. And the moon is also at apogee - farthest from Earth for the month - on Sunday. The close alignment the 2 events gives us the closest apogee - the closest far-moon - of 2019. Read more.
