Scientists detect a black hole swallowing a neutron star Gravitational wave detectors in the U.S. and Italy sensed ripples in space-time on August 14. Data analysis suggests they came from a black hole eating a neutron star, 900 million light-years from Earth. If so ... it's a first-ever detection of this sort by earthly scientists. And it's a big win for those using gravitational waves to explore the universe. Here's the story.
