Tonight … Partial lunar eclipse

Africa and Europe will see the partial lunar eclipse after sunset August 7. India and western Asia will see it around midnight August 7. Eastern Asia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand will see it before sunrise August 8. This eclipse will not be visible in the Americas.

Why no eclipse at every new and full moon?

In 2017, there are 12 full moons and 12 new moons, but only 4 eclipses - 2 lunar and 2 solar.

Countdown to solar eclipse: August 21, 2017

Two weeks to go! All you need to know about the 1st total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous U.S. since 1979, from eclipse master Fred Espenak.
