Giant sunspots, solar flares, aurora alert! Gowrishankar Lakshminarayanan called this: “… a surreal sunset from Fire Island Lighthouse in Fire Island, New York. You can see the 2 giant sunspots – AR2673 and AR2674 – as the sun is setting.” The sunspots are visible to the eye, but you must use a safe solar filter. Your eclipse glasses will work!

Still, we all can enjoy this 3rd and final full moon of northern summer (southern winter) tonight. How many house-sized NEOs? A new study shows house-sized NEOs - Near-Earth Objects - to be 10 times fewer than studies had indicated. That leaves some 3.5 million NEOs larger than 10 meters across.
