In 2018, there's no moon to spoil the show. The parent comet recently passed near. Best night is likely October 8. Consider October 7 and 9, too. To see the most meteors ... watch in the evening, not after midnight. And find a dark country sky! Read more.

The moon phase is waning crescent

A waning crescent moon is up in the east before sunrise. Ken Christison in North Carolina caught this waning crescent with earthshine on Thursday morning. The next new moon is October 9.
